Tinkeru failed its roadworthy

So we stripped it for parts and are building Motoru instead.

Hey Tinkerers!

Long time, no contact.

As you might’ve guessed, Tinkeru (as you knew it) isn’t doing much these days.

Tinkeru started as a way to help car enthusiasts become more self-sufficient and connect with other DIYers. We paused it at the end of 2024 for a well-earned break and when we returned in early 2025, we decided to park it temporarily (at the time).

We decided to test a new idea. Still in the car space (because we clearly can’t help ourselves), but with a new modern/future focus.

Since February, we’ve been building Motoru, that aims to help people find the right EV without all the hassle. It’s still early days (we put MVP out in mid-May), but it’s coming together fast, and I’d love for you to check it out!

Now, something a bit unexpected has happened to Tinkeru...

Since the beginning of exploring Tinkeru, I’d invite other founders and tinkerers into a private Slack group. Basically other folks building digital side projects, experimenting with AI, vibe-coding, or just figuring things out. Over time, it quietly turned into a lively little founders community. So I made it official - tinkeru.com now points to that group. If that sounds like your kind of space, come hang out.

Back to Motoru. Right now it’s all about helping people compare EVs easily. I’ll be firing up my email writing skills again soon with new tools, tips, and some fun stuff we’ve got planned, so sign up if this sounds like your jam. (psst: If you sign up, you can download a free EV comparison spreadsheet and track your shortlist!)

Honestly, I probably should’ve sent this months ago. But I was still holding onto the idea of getting back to Tinkeru (the DIY car version). That’s not happening anytime soon, and that sucks is okay.

Thanks again for being part of the OG Tinkeru. I learned a lot, and I’m grateful for anyone that took the time to follow along, provide feedback, get involved.

Now come check out what’s next and hang out with me over at Motoru.

– Matt

PS. Motoru is on socials and all that too, if that’s your jam.
